Welcome to Licensing Content (the website), close cousin of the book Content Licensing.
The book provides the introduction, while the website is a bit more wide-ranging. They don't overlap very much: the book is a step-by-step introduction to the why, how, and the frequently asked questions of digital content, while the website includes several topics not included in the book, plus updates, reviews, and so on. As soon as you start thinking about content licensing, you realise the subject comprises far more than just licensing! Hence you will find here not only tips on content licensing, but also reviews of books and websites, articles about anything to do with online publishing that I think could be relevant and interesting for those involved in delivering digital content.
As a publisher I have created content; wearing a business development hat I have delivered it digitally, and now I help other publishers and content owners create, license and deliver digital content. With Helicon Publishing I published the UK's first online encyclopedia, and subsequently created and sold licensed content to AOL, CompuServe, Microsoft, and to many other companies and institutions in the UK and the US. Subsequently I created a subscription-based newsletter and online bookstore for Building Research Association, and licensed content on behalf of several trade and professional publishers. Today I manage a consultant managing a number of licensing projects for the UK education community, for example Digital Images for Education. I also edit the UK Electronic Information Group's journal Elucidate. If you really want more about me, try my website.
